I am new to blogging, and one thing I am used to on the main forum I usually post at is the signature section in which I put my quotes (as many do). There is not really a place like that here to put them, so I just thougt I would post them in an article. Then I got to thinking that it is odd in a way that we choose someone else's words to describe our point of view, beliefs, values, etc. Why not just state our point of view, belief, value, etc? I suppose that using quotes makes us look more intellectual and sophisticated. Or maybe the person we quote is just better with words than we are.
Anyway, here are the 2 quotes I have been using for quite some time.
"Slander, lies, character assassination--these things are a threat to every single citizen everywhere in this country. And when even one American--who has done nothing wrong--is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all Americans are in peril"
- Harry S. Truman, Address at the Dedication of the New Washington Headquarters of the American Legion, August 14, 1951
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
