Now I am experimenting with Theme Manager. I open the program and choose a Suite to Apply. It states it is downloading some files (wallpaper, icons, etc). After that window disappears I am back to the the Theme Manager program and nothing has changed. I exit Theme Manger and still nothing has changed. Am I missing something?

We could have talked about this in the other thread...

Do you have Windowblinds and the other programs listed in Theme Manager installed (Visual Styles=WindowBlinds)?

Yes. The first time I tried to install a suite it asked me if I wanted to install several programs (to which I said yes). I have since gotten 2 suites within Theme Manger to work: MacPC and Windows Classic. It seems on the other ones when it downloads the files that the next step listed is Extract Download and it seems it stops before that step.

That could be a glitch in the new site versus TM. If the Suite file is 1kb then all it is is urls that it uses to retrieve the files..they could be a problem until the site's wrinkles are ironed out. Go for the suites that are large (2-3mb)..they have all the files in them. Also open the TM settings and under the load tab check the apps you have installed and want to load.

Now since I loaded the MacPC suite from Theme Manager, I can't get my desktop back when using DesktopX. All I have is the 4 icons that the MacPC suite put there. This is getting frustrating....

Okay, I downloaded a suite that was 4 MB and Theme Manager loaded it fine (I am assuming the few problems I am experiancine are related to the specific suite I am using). Anyway, I am still having the problem of my desktop only having the 4 MacPC suite icons on it. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Theme Manager isn't the best place to start playing, but that's OK. If you remember one thing you'll have what you want when you want it. All the programs allow you to save everything as a Theme. A DX theme, An IP theme, a Cursor theme....you get the idea. Theme Manager lets you load a whole theme (that someone else created) or you can pick each theme from each app and then if you want save that as your own TM theme. As an example...when you have DX just the way you want it click on the 'Save Theme', save it, call it whatever you want. It will now show up in TM under the DX tab...did I lose you yet?

I think that makes sense.

That makes sense.

Try it with DX...save the theme when you have it the way you want. Then you'll see how it interacts with TM. Plus if you decide to change DX you can change whatever you want, save it with a different name and still retain the old theme. Do that with each app you have installed and you can put together all the TM themes you want. K?

I figured out my "MacPC Suite Hijacking" problem. In DesktopX there was an option to Hide Desktop Icons. What I thought were the 4 MacPC themed icons were really objects. So, uncheck Hide and delete 4 objects and I am almost back where I started. All I have to do is REARRANGE my desktop icons....

When you save the DX theme (after you arrange them) it should retain their position on a re-load.

I rearranged my icons and chose Save As from within DesktopX. I think that will end my adventures for tonight. Thanks for all your help.

Ok, new night, new adventures. So last night I arranged my icons to my liking and used DesktopX to Save As "zorven". Tonight, I downloaded an icon package I liked, and used Icon Packager to install it. It re-arranged all my icons. So I tried using DesktopX to load my saved theme to see if that would put my icons back where I had them....no luck. Unless someone can tell me what I am doing wrong, I have had enough of using Icon Packager. I am not going to re-arrange my desktop icons everytime I want to change my icons.

I think it's more an XP thing then IP....go to Display Properties/Desktop/Customize Desktop/Web. Check 'Lock Desktop Items'..... see if that fixes it
